Answers to the most important questions about destination weddings in Europe.

Quick overview

Destination weddings and wedding locations

What is a destination wedding?

A destination wedding is so much more than getting married in a beautiful place.

It is a conscious decision to create time together. Instead of spending only a few hours with the people you love most, your closest friends and family travel with you, stay for several days and create memories that reach far beyond the wedding day itself.

The finca, villa, chateau, castle or island does not simply become a backdrop. The place becomes part of your story – through all the conversations, encounters and quiet little moments that happen there.

Why are more and more couples choosing a destination wedding?

Because many couples do not just want to remember a wedding day. They want to remember an experience.

A destination wedding slows everything down. Your guests arrive with intention, take time for each other and often spend several days together. This creates deeper conversations, stronger connections and memories that feel more intense than a single day ever could.

Many of our couples later tell us that their destination wedding felt less like a traditional wedding and more like the most beautiful weekend of their lives.

Do you cover destination weddings all across Europe?

Yes. We travel wherever your story takes place – whether Mallorca, Italy, France, Austria, Portugal, Greece or Germany.

For us, the location itself is never the most important part. What matters are the people who bring it to life. A breathtaking villa is beautiful. It becomes unforgettable through your families, your friends, your voices and all the moments that happen there.

Why is Mallorca one of the most popular destination wedding locations in Europe?

Mallorca combines exclusivity with ease.

Short flight times, extraordinary fincas, beautiful coastlines, private villas, many sunny days and excellent infrastructure make the island ideal for international weddings.

At the same time, Mallorca has this rare mix of elegance and relaxation. Your wedding can feel elevated, modern and stylish – without ever feeling stiff. That is exactly why weddings on the island often have such a special atmosphere.

Do you have experience with weddings in Mallorca?

Yes. Mallorca has been one of the places where we regularly work for years.

We know the unique rhythm of the island, the light, the distances, the timelines and many of the typical challenges that come with weddings there. This helps us not only when filming and photographing, but also gives you more security throughout the planning process.

For us, Mallorca is not an anonymous travel destination. It is a place where we can accompany your story with calm, experience and a deep sense for the atmosphere of the day.

Which destination wedding locations do you love most?

We love places with character.

Historic castles, private villas, fincas with wide open views, chateaus in France, lake locations in Italy or intimate places that hold personal meaning for you.

For us, it is not only about how a place looks. It is about how it feels. The most beautiful wedding films are created where location, people and story truly belong together.

International weddings and collaboration

Do you work in English?

Yes. Many of our weddings are international.

We regularly accompany weddings in both German and English and work smoothly with international guests, families and vendors. Especially for destination weddings, clear and relaxed communication is incredibly important – before the wedding, on the day itself and throughout the collaboration with the entire team.

Do you have experience with international weddings?

Yes. Many of our couples live in different countries or celebrate with guests from all over the world.

International weddings often have their own unique energy. Different languages, cultures, family stories and traditions come together in one place. That is what makes them so special – and so valuable for film and photography.

We understand how important it is to capture this dynamic with sensitivity, attention and an eye for the quiet connections between people.

Do you work with international wedding planners?

Yes. We regularly work with wedding planners from Germany, Spain, Italy, France and other European countries.

Close collaboration within the vendor team is especially important for destination weddings. When planning, photography, film, location and all other vendors work well together, the day feels calmer – and you can feel that later in the images and in the film.

Can we book you for film only?

Of course.

If you have already booked a photographer, we integrate seamlessly into the existing team. We coordinate beforehand, work with respect and make sure you are not guided twice or constantly interrupted on your wedding day.

Our goal always stays the same: a relaxed experience and a film that truly feels like you.

Can we book film and photography together?

Yes. Many international couples consciously choose to book film and photography together.

The great advantage is a shared visual language and a well-rehearsed flow. We work with each other rather than next to each other, coordinate quietly and create more calm for you.

Especially for destination weddings, where travel, timing and planning play a bigger role, one combined team can bring a lot of security and ease.

Why do many couples book film and photography together?

Because one shared team makes so many things easier.

Photography and film tell the same story in different ways. When both come from one team, the visual language is consistent, the coordination is simpler and the flow of the wedding day becomes much more relaxed.

You do not have to mediate between different teams. You can focus on your wedding – and we make sure that film and photography tell your story together.

Travel, safety and planning

Do you arrive before the wedding?

Yes. Depending on the location and timeline, we usually arrive one to two days earlier for destination weddings.

A wedding cannot be repeated. That is why we plan our travel with intention, buffer and calm. This allows us to start the wedding day focused, prepared and without unnecessary travel stress.

What happens in case of flight delays or travel issues?

We plan destination weddings with enough buffer, clear logistics and several layers of security.

When traveling abroad, we do not rely on the tightest possible flight or a perfect theory. We think ahead about potential delays, alternative connections and sensible arrival times.

A wedding cannot simply be postponed. That is exactly why we treat the entire travel planning with the same care as the film itself.

Do you need accommodation on location?

For destination weddings, yes.

Accommodation close to the venue keeps distances short and allows us to work with full focus on the wedding day. Especially for multi-day weddings, early Getting Readys or late-night parties, this is an important part of relaxed and secure planning.

How does the planning work before a destination wedding?

Very personal and still uncomplicated.

Many conversations happen online. In video calls, we talk about your plans, your story, the timeline, the location and everything that matters to you. If you are working with a wedding planner, we are happy to coordinate directly with the planning team.

Our goal is to get a clear feeling for you and your days on location before the wedding—so we do not only film what happens, but understand why it matters.

How far in advance should we book you?

Many international couples book 12 to 24 months in advance.

Especially popular weekends in Mallorca, Italy, France or other destination wedding regions are often booked long ahead of time. Since we intentionally accompany only a limited number of weddings per year, an early inquiry is especially helpful.

Film, photography and multi-day celebrations

How much time should we plan for couple portraits?

In most cases, 15 to 30 minutes are enough.

We do not want to keep you away from your guests for too long. Instead, we use the right moment, beautiful light and natural movement with intention. Often, the strongest images and scenes are not created in long shoots but in short moments that feel easy and natural.

When are the most beautiful film and photo moments created?

Very often in the hours around sunset.

The light is softer, more flattering and brings a special calm into the images. Especially for destination weddings in Mallorca, Italy or France, golden hour can create a beautiful atmosphere.

Still, it is never only about perfect light. The most beautiful images are always created when light, place and feeling come together.

Do we need to pose for film and photography?

No.

Most of our couples are not models. We do not want to force you into stiff poses, but create situations in which you feel comfortable.

We give gentle guidance, move with you through the location and leave space for real closeness, movement and small in-between moments. This creates film and photo memories that feel elevated without looking staged.

Do you also cover welcome dinners, pool parties and boat days?

Yes. And especially for destination weddings, these events can be incredibly valuable.

At a welcome dinner, guests begin to connect. At a pool party, lightness unfolds. On a boat day, images and scenes are created that feel completely different from the wedding day itself.

These moments tell us more about your guests, your energy and the feeling of your weekend. That is why they can be just as important for your film as the big moments in the main timeline.

Do multi-day weddings make sense for a film?

Absolutely.

The more time we spend with you and your guests, the more completely we can tell your story. Multi-day weddings give us space for the quiet moments, the real conversations, the small gestures and the connections between the people you love most.

A single wedding day can be beautiful. An entire weekend can feel like a world of its own – and that is exactly what a film can preserve.

Investment, quality and storytelling

What does a destination wedding videographer cost?

That depends on the destination, the scope, the coverage and the services you would like to include.

More important than a general number is the question of which memories will matter to you in the long run. A high-quality wedding film is not something you watch only once. It accompanies you for decades, becomes more meaningful over time and preserves voices, people and moments that may one day become priceless.

Why do destination wedding videographer prices vary so much?

Because not every film is created in the same way.

Experience, storytelling, equipment, backups, travel planning, editing time and personal care can differ enormously. You are not only investing in cameras or filming days. You are investing in people who take responsibility for a memory that cannot be repeated.

What makes a great destination wedding film?

Not the location. Not the drone. Not the view.

A great destination wedding film works because people are at the center of it. Of course, beautiful places matter. But a film becomes powerful when it shows why exactly these people came together in exactly this place.

The destination is the stage. Your story is the reason the film has meaning.

Why is a wedding film especially valuable for a destination wedding?

Because a destination wedding is often so much more than a wedding. People travel from different countries. Families spend several days together. Friendships deepen. New memories are created.

A wedding film therefore preserves much more than the ceremony or the celebration. It holds on to the entire feeling of those days – the anticipation at the welcome dinner, the conversations by the pool, the embraces, the journey, the music, the voices and all the small moments that often become just as meaningful as the wedding itself.

The more years pass, the more valuable these memories become.

Which destination weddings are the best fit for you?

We are the right fit for couples who value quality, personality and real memories.

Whether it is an intimate elopement in Mallorca, an elegant villa wedding in Italy, a modern lakeside celebration or a multi-day castle wedding in Germany: for us, the size of the wedding is not what matters most. The story behind it is.

We love weddings where people consciously come together not only to celebrate one day, but to create a memory for life.

Why do international couples choose Sonnen Media?

Because they are looking for more than beautiful images. They are looking for people they can trust. A team that wants to understand their story. A way of working that feels calm, attentive and personal. And memories that are not interchangeable.

We do not accompany destination weddings just to film beautiful places. We accompany them to preserve the people, stories and feelings that make these days truly meaningful.
