Answers to the most important questions about our wedding films.
Quick Overview
Why a wedding film matters
Why should we invest in a wedding film?
Your wedding will be one of the few days in life when everyone who truly matters to you is gathered in one place. Many of the moments that make the day unforgettable last only seconds – a glance, an embrace, a voice, a laugh you may not even notice while it happens.
A wedding film does not simply show what your day looked like. It lets you hear it, feel it and step back into the atmosphere of it. Years from now, you will not only see the people you love – you will hear their voices, relive your vows and return to one of the most meaningful days of your life.
Why book a wedding film alongside photography?
Photography and film tell the same story in completely different ways. A photograph preserves one single moment. A film connects those moments. It keeps the voices, the movement, the speeches, the vows and all the little in-between moments that would otherwise fade with time.
Together, photography and film create the most complete memory of your wedding day. One preserves the moments. The other brings them back to life.
What makes a great wedding film?
A great wedding film is not defined by drone shots, transitions or cinematic effects.
A great wedding film tells a story. Your story.
At its heart are real emotions, honest connections and the people who shared the day with you. The most meaningful wedding films feel less like a recap and more like a memory you can step back into again and again.
What is the difference between a wedding film and a wedding video?
A wedding video documents what happened. A wedding film tells the story behind it.
While a traditional wedding video often follows a chronological timeline, we search for the deeper story behind the day. Because your story did not begin with the ceremony. It often started years earlier – with the choices you made, the challenges you faced, the coincidences that changed everything and the moments that brought you here.
That is why we ask many questions long before the wedding. We want to understand who you are, what connects you and which people and experiences have shaped your story. Only then can we create a film that feels truly personal to you.
Emotions, voices, vows, speeches and real moments become part of a story that reaches far beyond the wedding day itself. Our goal is not simply to show what happened, but to create a memory that still feels just as powerful decades from now.
What makes Sonnen Media different from other wedding filmmakers?
We do not believe in templates, standard formulas or films that could belong to anyone. Many wedding films show what happened on one day. We want to understand why that day matters in the first place.
That is why we get to know our couples long before the wedding. We ask questions, listen carefully and dive into the story behind the celebration. What brought you together? What challenges have you overcome? Which people have shaped your journey? Because your story does not begin with the Getting Ready. It begins long before that.
That is exactly why no two films we create are ever alike. Every film is built from the ground up – based on your personalities, your relationships and the moments that make your story uniquely yours.
To do this properly, we intentionally accept only a limited number of weddings each year. It allows us to give every story the time, attention and creativity it deserves.
How would you describe your style?
Modern. Emotional. Timeless.
We combine documentary storytelling with a cinematic visual language. We are always looking for real moments, honest emotion and the feeling that makes your day unlike anyone else’s. Our goal is not to follow trends. Our goal is to create films that feel just as meaningful today as they will in twenty years.
Planning and coverage
Do you only film weddings in Germany?
No. We film weddings throughout Germany and across Europe. Whether it is a castle, a villa, a finca, a mountain setting or an intimate family celebration – we travel wherever your story takes place.
Do you also film destination weddings?
Destination weddings are some of our absolute favorites. They often create especially intense memories, because the people you love spend several days together and so many meaningful moments happen beyond the wedding day itself.
Those moments are what make a wedding film incredibly valuable.
How long should a wedding film be?
As long as it needs to be and as short as it can be. The ideal length is not based on a fixed rule, but on your story and the moments that unfold during your wedding. Some stories work beautifully in just a few minutes. Others need more space to breathe.
What matters most to us is not the length, but that the film feels complete, emotional and true to you.
How many hours should a wedding videographer be there?
For most weddings, around ten hours of coverage works beautifully. It allows us to tell the day from Getting Ready to the party and preserve the many small moments in between.
The bigger the wedding and the more layered the schedule, the more valuable extended coverage can be.
When should we book a wedding videographer?
As early as possible.
Popular dates, especially Saturdays during peak season and destination weddings, are often booked 12 to 18 months in advance.
If you have already reserved your venue, it is a good time to get to know us.
What is the process before the wedding?
Very relaxed. We start with a no-pressure conversation, get to know each other and talk about your plans, wishes and ideas.
As the wedding gets closer, we help with the timeline, answer your questions and support you in creating a flow that leaves enough space for real memories. Whatever question comes up, we are by your side.
Filming and feeling comfortable
Do we need to pose for the camera?
No. Most of our couples have never been filmed professionally before. You do not need to know anything and you do not need to play a role.
We give small impulses and create situations in which natural moments can happen. The strongest moments usually unfold when you focus on each other, not on the camera.
What is the Couple Shooting like?
It rarely feels like a classic shoot. We move through beautiful places together, talk with you and create space for real connection. We film a lot in motion and use the in-between moments that naturally unfold.
That is often exactly where the strongest scenes for your film are created.
How much time should we plan for filming?
In most cases, 15 to 30 minutes are more than enough. We are happy to spread these moments throughout the day so you can spend as much time as possible with your guests. If you have booked an external photographer, simply plan around 15 extra minutes for us on top of the photo session. That is enough for us.
Do we need to act for the film?
Quite the opposite. The more natural you are, the stronger the film will feel. We do not want to film perfect performers. We want to film real people with real emotions. That is what makes a film valuable years later.
Do you work with drones?
Yes, whenever weather, location and legal conditions allow it.
Drone shots can create beautiful perspectives and capture the atmosphere of a place. Still, for us they are only a small tool within a much bigger story.
The most important images almost always happen on the ground – with the people who mean the most to you.
Ready for your story?
Your wedding lasts one day. Your story lasts a lifetime.
If you want a film that connects both and turns them into a memory with meaning for decades to come, we would love to get to know you.
